Registered Massage Therapy Scope of Practice

Registered Massage Therapy has a wide scope of practice. A session will generally include physical assessment, the application of massage therapy techniques, and physical exercises, however each treatment will be tailored to fit your specific needs.

Assessment

The purpose of the physical assessment is to determine the cause of the dysfunction. With a thorough understanding of the issue, we can develop a more personalized treatment plan and attend to the root cause of the dysfunction, as opposed to only addressing the symptoms.

Massage

Registered massage therapy is the physical manipulation of soft tissue to address discomfort and pain. Massage involves a variety of different hands-on techniques, with varying degrees of intensity.

Physical Maintenance

Discomfort, pain, and dysfunction can arise when we are not physically prepared for the demands we place on our bodies. Demands are wide ranging: sitting at a desk for eight hours a day, reaching up to the highest shelf, performing a floor routine… Specific conditioning and flexibility techniques, combined with ongoing exercise can heal, and even prevent dysfunction from manifesting. Physical maintenance is one of the most powerful tools in ongoing physical health.
